Fernando is a product of the youth ranks of Lanus, in 2012 he moved to Spain and joined Villarreal CF B on loan.
Fernando Barrientos spent the majority of his career in South American football.
He moved to Rosario Central on loan in 2014 before heading to Brazil to join Atletico Paraenense on a similar deal.
In the following three years he played for Defensa and Guarain, in Paraguay.
In 2021 he decided to join Chilean club Cobreloa before returning home to play for All Boys and then Gimnasia last January.
Fernando Barrientos joined Valletta Football Club in July 2023.
