A late penalty denied Valletta the three points as they were held in a 1-1 draw by holders Hibernians in another match from the Euro Cup at the Centenary Stadium on Tuesday.
Yessous Camilleri, who was on loan with Balzan in the past two years, put the Citizens ahead on 29 minutes but three minutes from time, Obinna Obiefule converted a penalty to restore equilibrium.
Sliema Wanderers lead the table with three points, followed by Valletta and Hibernians on one point with Birkirkara lying at the bottom of the table without any points.
The tournament continues on Friday with the clash between Hibernians and Sliema Wanderers while on Saturday, Birkirkara take on Valletta. Both matches will be played at the Centenary Stadium, kick-off at 20:00.
