Day 30 Valletta 5 Mosta 0
12/04/2014
Valletta sent a strong warning to leaders Birkirkara on their title aspirations as the Citizens crushed Mosta 5-0 at the Hibs Stadium.
Denni gave a stark reminder of his importance to Valletta’s title quest as the nippy Brazilian scored his team’s opening two goals inside the opening half hour.
Iit was Valletta who made all the early running and they drew first blood after 12 minutes. Alan Da Silva Souza showed great footwork to create some space for himself on the right before hitting a low cross that Borg failed to hold onto and in came Denni who bundled the ball into the net.
Denni struck again on 29 minutes when the Brazilian was set up by Abdelkerim Nafti and he calmly hit a low shot past Mosta goalkeeper Omar Borg.
On 40 minutes, Nafti should have further stretched Valletta’s lead when the Tunisian winger climbed to meet Roderick Briffa’s cross but he headed over with only Borg to beat.
Valletta ended the half in some style as a minute from the break Ryan Fenech stole possession in midfield and seeing Borg out of his position the Malta midfielder chipped the ball over the Mosta no.1 for a fine goal indeed.
The Citizens netted a fourth goal on 52 minutes Da Silva Souza hit a low grounder towards goal and Luke Montebello was on hand to stab past Borg.
Valletta completed the rout 13 minutes from time when Abayomi Owonikoko was at the end of a Nafti pass and the Nigeria striker cooly curled the ball past Borg.
Valletta midfielder Alan Da Silva Souza was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
