Valletta advanced to the last eight of the Meridianbet FA Trophy after defeating Gżira United with a 1-0 scoreline in extra time.
In the fourth minute, Gżira had a chance after a cross from Kevin Tulimieri into the box found Thaylor Aldama, whose header struck the crossbar.
In the twenty-fifth minute, Gżira suffered a setback when Kevin Tulimieri was shown a straight red card after appearing to elbow Sheldon Mackay.
In the thirty-ninth minute, a shot from Jefferson Ferreira inside the box went just over the bar. In the sixty-first minute, a long-range shot from Brandon Paiber also went high.
In the seventy-eighth minute, Gżira had a good opportunity when Aldama received the ball inside the box and fired a low shot, but his effort hit the post and rebounded away from goal.
In the ninety-third minute, a shot from Brooklyn Borg from outside the box was easily saved by goalkeeper Aquilina.
In the 102nd minute, Valletta took the lead after a cross from Brandon Paiber found James Scicluna, who headed past Formosa to make it 1-0.
In the 105th minute, a free kick by James Scicluna went just wide.
