Day 12 Valletta 6 Mosta 0

Valletta Mosta

Valletta put up a dazzling attacking display as they crushed a sorry Mosta side 6-0 at the Hibs Stadium.

The Citizens were in control right from the outset and they surged ahead after 13 minutes. From a Abdelkerim Nafti corner-kick, Luke Dimech nodded the ball into the path of Jonathan Caruana who dived full stretch to head past Mosta goalkeeper Omar Borg.

On 17 minutes, from a Nafti corner kick, Luke Dimech’s thumping drive came off the bar and two minutes later it was the turn of Nafti to hit the bar with an audacious lob with Borg beaten.

Mosta finally threatened on 26 minutes when in a quick raid, Manolito Micallef served Ricardo whose curling drive beat Valletta goalkeeper Yenz Cini but in came Dimech to clear the ball off the line.

Valletta started the second half in impressive style and on 47 minutes Ryan Fenech dispossessed Kane Farrugia to burst into the area and slot the ball past Borg.

Mosta were still coming to terms with that blow that Valletta struck again three minutes later. Mifsud Triganza’s shot from outside the area was blocked with the ball falling kindly to the unmarked Edmund Agius who had little difficulty in blasting the ball into the net.

Valletta were not finished yet and on 54 minutes they grabbed a fourth goal. From a corner action, Nafti’s dipping cross was met by Briffa whose downward header had the better of Borg.

The woodwork denied Mosta a consolation goal on 57 minutes when Piccione to Consentini’s set-piece cross with the ball coming off the bar before City cleared.

Valletta piled more misery on Mosta on 67 minutes when Denni showed great footwork to move past two Mosta defenders before hitting a low drive that nestled into the net.

Seven minutes from time substitute Llywelyn Cremona put Denni clear and beat Borg with a thumping drive.

Valletta midfielder Ryan Fenech was voted as the BOV Player of the match.
