Valletta FC’s U17 squad emerged victorious in the BNF U17 Knockout Final, securing their place as the champions of the tournament. The young Citizens’ journey to the final was marked by a memorable derby win over local rivals Floriana, setting the stage for an electrifying championship match against San Gwann.
The final, held at the Luxol Stadium, San Gwann struck first, with Jerome Grima finding the back of the net in the 34th minute, challenging Valletta to respond.
Our young lions showed remarkable resilience and composure. Their patience and persistent attacking play paid off in the 69th minute when Liam Buhagiar expertly slotted home the equalizer, bringing the scores level at 1-1.
As the match seemed destined for extra time, Valletta’s relentless pressure in the closing stages of the game bore fruit. In a moment of brilliance, Liam James delivered a stunning goal, sealing a 2-1 victory for Valletta and sending our supporters into rapturous celebration.
