Jake Azzopardi Commits to Valletta FC for 2025/26 Season

After several weeks of speculation surrounding a possible move to Italy, Valletta FC is proud to announce that 19-year-old midfielder Jake Azzopardi will remain with the Citizens for the upcoming 2025/26 season.

Azzopardi, one of Malta’s most promising young talents, had been heavily linked with a transfer to Serie C, following his recent debut with the Maltese national team during the UEFA qualifiers against the Netherlands. Despite the rumours, the Valletta FC academy graduate has decided to continue his journey with the capital club, reaffirming his loyalty ahead of the team’s much-anticipated return to the Maltese Premier League.

Azzopardi first broke into the senior team at just 17 years old, quickly establishing himself as a key figure. Last season, he featured prominently in the Challenge League, recording 19 appearances and scoring 3 goals. His contributions were instrumental in Valletta’s promotion campaign and in shaping the team’s next generation of talent.

To date, Azzopardi has already amassed 48 appearances in all competitions for Valletta FC, including 20 matches in the Premier League between 2022 and 2024. He also gained valuable experience on the European stage, representing Valletta in the UEFA Youth League with the U19s squad. There, he featured in four matches, facing top clubs like HJK Helsinki (Finland) and AJ Auxerre (France).

With pre-season preparations underway, Azzopardi is expected to play a leading role under head coach Thane Micallef, who continues to put faith in homegrown talent as Valletta builds a competitive squad for their top-tier comeback.
