Valletta FC to face FC Honka Espoo in UEFA Youth League
04/09/2024
Valletta FC is set to face Finnish club FC Honka Espoo in the first round of the UEFA Youth League, following the competition’s draw held last Tuesday.
The Citizens will be the first Maltese team to participate in this prestigious tournament after UEFA expanded the competition to include teams from all affiliated nations.
Valletta secured their spot in the tournament by winning the Malta FA Youth League, finishing ahead of Mosta in last season’s championship.
FC Honka is well-known in Finland for its extensive youth program, which includes over 1,000 players across various age groups.
Last season, the Finnish club faced significant financial difficulties, leading to bankruptcy and forcing their senior team to compete in Kakkonen, Finland’s fourth division.
The first leg between Valletta FC and FC Honka Espoo will take place in Finland on September 18, with the return leg in Malta on October 2.
The winner of this tie will advance to the second round, where they will face the French club Auxerre on October 23 and November 6.
