Nicky Vella started his career playing football at the age of eight with San Gwann. At first Nicky started playing as a defender but at the age of 15 he changed into the role of a goalkeeper. In 2006, Nicky joined Valletta and formed part of the Citizens minors.
In season 2007-2008 Nicky made his debut in the white shirt during the BOV super Cup final against Birkirkara on August 8th.
During the following three season Vella was Valletta’s second goalkeeper. During season 2009 Nicky guarded the post during all the matches in the National League 100 Anniversary, winning this honour in the final against Floriana (3-1).
After spending three years with Valletta, Nicky joined Tarxien Rainbows in season 2011 and made his debut in a match against Qormi. Season 2013-14 was an excellent one for Nicky with the Rainbows, he helped the team fight the relegation battle and maintain their status in the Premier League.
Nicky forms part of the National team squad, he used to form part of the Under-19 and Under 21 national team.
Nicky Vella signed a five-year deal with Valletta in May 2014.
